Hawai’i’s forested watersheds help collect rainwater/recharge our aquifers, provide a habitat for Hawai’i’s native flora and fauna, and help mitigate the effects of climate change. The Stewardship program works to control ecosystem altering weeds such as Albizia (Falcataria moluccana) and Mule’s foot fern (Angiopteris evecta) across the entire property. These targets are part of a Statewide control effort in watersheds across the island.
Hakipu’u is home to several perennial springs. Two of these headlands are fenced to allow for protection of restoration projects around these springs. For more information about these restoration projects, visit the native forest conservation/restoration page.
